Historic homes and older neighborhoods

Ponca City's oil-boom years left it with some of the finest older homes in Oklahoma: brick and stone two-stories, tile roofs, tall chimneys, and big trees in the neighborhoods around downtown and the Marland-era estates. These houses have stood a long time, and many have never had lightning protection.

On an older home we route conductors along corners, downspouts, and trim so the system stays out of sight, and we take care with tile and slate. See residential lightning protection. Newer homes on the edges of town and on acreage can be protected too, and a new build is the easiest time to do it. See new construction lightning protection.

Wheat, cattle, and farmsteads

Kay County is wheat and cattle country, flat to gently rolling, with farmsteads where the house, machine shed, hay barn, and grain bins are the only tall things for a long way. Storms coming down from Kansas hit this ground hard in spring.

We plan the house and outbuildings together so the grounding ties in and the whole place is covered. Grain bins get a careful look, since their height and metal construction change the approach. See Oklahoma farm and ranch lightning protection.

Churches, businesses, and Kaw Lake

Ponca City, Blackwell, and Newkirk all have brick churches with steeples and downtown commercial buildings that need a system designed around how they look. Out at Kaw Lake, cabins and lake homes sit on exposed ground above the water. See church and steeple lightning protection and commercial lightning protection. Around the refinery and industrial sites, we work on the buildings and leave the operator's process equipment to the operator.

How we build, and how we schedule

Linzy Lightning Protection is a family business, and Joe is the third generation of his family to install lightning rods. Every system is designed with the goal of following NFPA 780 and installed to UL 96A, using aluminum conductors in most cases and copper where the building calls for it.

We serve Ponca City and all of Kay County. If neighbors, your church, or your co-op are interested, tell us and we'll plan everyone's protection together. After hail or a new roof, an existing system is worth checking. See lightning protection inspection.
