Hail damage and roof replacements in Texas and Oklahoma
Spring and early-summer hailstorms across North Texas, the Panhandle, West Texas, and Oklahoma routinely total roofs. When the roof comes off, everything attached to it comes off too, including air terminals (lightning rods), conductor cables, and their fasteners.
If no one plans for the lightning protection system, it often gets thrown in the dumpster, left in a pile, or put back loosely without proper bonding and connections. A system that looks fine from the street can leave a gap in the path to ground.
Insurance often covers removing and reinstalling your system
Most homeowner insurance policies typically cover removing and reinstalling an existing lightning protection system as part of a covered roof claim, since the system has to come off for the roof to be replaced. Coverage varies by policy and carrier, so ask your adjuster to include lightning protection removal and reinstallation in the claim before work starts.
We're happy to provide a written estimate for the remove-and-reset work that you can send to your adjuster.
Why your roofer shouldn't reinstall the system
Roofers are experts at roofs, not lightning protection. Reinstalling a system correctly means proper air terminal spacing, conductor routing with the right bend radius, secure connections, bonding of nearby metal, and an intact path to the grounding system.
A lightning protection installer should reset the system to NFPA 780, the recognized installation standard. At Linzy Lightning Protection, Joe Linzy does every install personally, so the person who removes your system is the same person who puts it back.

FAQ
New roof and lightning protection FAQ
Will my insurance pay to remove and reinstall my lightning rods?
Often, yes. Most homeowner policies typically treat removal and reinstallation of an existing system as part of a covered roof claim, but every policy is different. Ask your adjuster to include it before the roof work starts.
Can my roofer just put the lightning rods back?
We don't recommend it. Reinstallation should be done by a lightning protection installer to NFPA 780 so spacing, conductor routing, connections, and bonding are correct.
When should I call you during a roof replacement?
As soon as you know the roof is being replaced. We remove the system before tear-off and reinstall it after the new roofing is on.
Do you replace damaged parts while reinstalling?
If hail or the tear-off damaged air terminals, cable, or fasteners, we'll tell you what needs replacing so it can be included in your estimate or claim.
Do you work in both Texas and Oklahoma?
Yes. We serve homes, farms, ranches, and commercial buildings across Texas and Oklahoma.
