Tree Lightning Protection for Heritage Oaks

Lightning protection for the trees you'd hate to lose: heritage live oaks, big pecans, and tall trees that stand close to your home, barn, or gathering spots.

Serving trees on Texas homes, ranches, and properties

What's Included

What tree lightning protection includes

Every system is planned around your structure and local conditions, with the goal of following recognized industry standards such as NFPA 780.

Air terminals in the crown

Air terminals mounted high in the tree, in the main leaders, so a strike has a planned place to attach.

Tree-friendly conductors

Conductors run down the trunk and fastened in ways meant to allow for the tree's growth.

Grounding beyond the trunk

Grounding placed to limit damage to the root zone and carry current into the earth.

Periodic checks

Checks every so often as the tree grows, so fasteners and conductors can be adjusted.

Which trees are worth protecting

Heritage live oaks, large pecans, and other big trees can take generations to replace. Trees that stand taller than the house nearby, stand alone in a pasture or yard, or shade a spot where people gather are good candidates. Many Texas homeowners also want to protect a tree simply because it's part of the family place.

Trees near your home

A strike to a tall tree next to a house can damage the tree and, in some cases, the house nearby. Protecting the tree and the home can be planned together. If a tree is close enough to touch the roof, we'll look at both during the estimate.

Working with the tree

We plan the installation to limit harm to the tree, and we're glad to coordinate with your arborist on pruning, cabling, or tree health. Our goal is for every system to follow recognized industry standards such as NFPA 780.

FAQ

Tree Lightning Protection FAQ

Can you put a lightning protection system on a tree?

Yes. A tree system uses air terminals high in the crown, conductors down the trunk, and grounding in the soil, installed in a way meant to allow for growth.

Does protecting a tree make it safe to stand under it in a storm?

No. Never shelter under a tree during a thunderstorm, protected or not. When thunder roars, go indoors.

Will the system hurt my tree?

We plan fastening and grounding to limit harm to the tree and allow for its growth, and we're happy to work with your arborist.

How often should a tree system be checked?

Trees keep growing, so it's a good idea to have the system checked every so often and after major storms so fasteners and conductors can be adjusted.
